It's time to try something new! Come and have a go at Modern Calligraphy.

Join us in person for a fun and creative session where you'll have a go at practicing modern calligraphy. Whether you're a complete beginner or just looking to improve your skills, this workshop will guide you step-by-step. Plus, you'll get to create your own Christmas cards and gift tags, whilst experimenting with festive inks to get you in the festive mood. Get ready to impress your family and friends this Christmas!

What can I do with my calligraphy skills?

In the workshop, you'll do lots of practicing modern calligraphy to get to grips with the techniques you need and use different tools. You can then use your skills to personalise things like greetings cards, gift tags and bookmarks. With Christmas around the corner, it's a brilliant skill to pick up, and a genuinely cosy way to spend an afternoon, whether that's with your mates, bought as a gift for someone special, or come along just for some 'me time'.

What's included?

On arrival, you'll get a lovely glass of fizz or a soft drink. You'll get your own calligraphy guidebook, specially designed by Steph, plus everything you need to start writing with confidence. We'll start with practice using a brush pen then move onto metal nib and coloured inks before creating beuatiful Christmas cards and tags.

What a lovely morning. My friend and I had a wonderful time trying Calligraphy with Steph. She was so well prepared, very friendly and supportive and did everything to make us both feel comfortable with the session.
She explained everything before we started and the session was well planned and at a pace to suit us. We worked with both pen and ink and also brush pen. Each required a different way of working but it was very useful to have an idea as to the different styles of Calligraphy.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need good handwriting to be good at calligraphy?

Not at all, anyone can be good at this! The great thing about the workshop is you have all the materials needed to improve quickly and Steph is on hand to give you tips and support.

Can I come alone?

Absolutely - lots of people come alone, whether that's to meet other people or just for some 'me time'. Steph creates a welcoming space and will make you feel comfortable whether you are alone or with friends.

Will there be food and drink available?

Yes, the food stalls in Glossop Hall will be open.

Where is the workshop taking place?

We'll be on the mezzanine level in Glossop Market Hall.

I haven't tried calligraphy before, does it matter?

Not at all, just come along and give it a go. All materials are provided and you'll get lots of support as we keep the group size small.
