The Second Helpings Project CIC is a community interest company founded to combat food insecurity, promote dignity through access to nutritious meals, and create meaningful opportunities for those most often left behind. Based in Glossop and serving the wider community, we operate on a “no judgment, just nourishment” model, driven by compassion, lived experience, and a vision for social change.

At its core, our work addresses the gaps between food waste, food poverty, and community cohesion. We rescue surplus food—partnering with local food vendors, producers, and businesses—and transform it into wholesome, balanced meals. Our team prepares these meals in a safe, accessible kitchen environment that also serves as a hub for learning, collaboration, and support.

Our work is community-focused and multi-dimensional:

• Frozen Meal Distribution: We prepare and provide free, nutritious frozen meals to individuals and families facing food insecurity. A simple means-testing model ensures access is fair and stigma-free.
• Community Meals & Events: We host regular free and low-cost community dining events to foster connection, reduce isolation, and break down social barriers with shared food experiences.
• Education & Outreach: We deliver sessions for home-schooled children and community members, teaching life skills such as affordable cooking, responsible food sourcing, and reducing waste.
• Volunteer Engagement: Our volunteer programme welcomes people from all backgrounds, including those with barriers to employment. We offer inclusive, meaningful roles in kitchen work, event support, and outreach—backed by training, guidance, and a supportive environment.
• Fair Work and Training: We are committed to becoming a Living Wage employer and offering paid roles wherever possible. We actively support personal development by creating space for people to grow their skills, pursue their passions, and take on new challenges within the organisation.
