Glossop Market Hall set for grand opening on Saturday, 29th of November

The "heartbeat of the town" returns with a celebration of local heritage, independent makers, and over 60 new jobs for the area.

GLOSSOP, UKSaturday, 29th November, marks a pivotal moment for Glossop as the Market Hall officially reopens its doors . Following a major regeneration project designed to restore one of the town’s most iconic landmarks, the "real hub" of Glossop is back.

The festivities begin early for the community with a special local open day on Friday, 28th November. Residents are warmly invited to pop in, explore the transformed space, and enjoy a "soft launch" preview of the restoration before the official celebrations kick off on Saturday.

The Grand Opening on Saturday coincides with the Glossop town centre Christmas light switch-on, promising an unmissable weekend of celebration.

A Celebration of Local Heritage and Talent

While the renovation blends Glossop’s historic character with a fresh design , the spirit of the new Market Hall is proudly local. The project has not only revitalised a landmark but also provided a significant boost to the local economy, creating over 60 new jobs for the area.

The hall is a showcase for the best of the region, featuring a vibrant mix of local and regional traders . The new bar highlights this commitment by featuring independent local breweries on tap, while the gin selection hails from the Glossop Distillery (from the renowned team behind Forest Gin).

In a unique addition to the hall, visitors will find Derbyshire’s first public book vending machine. Owned by Melanie O’Brien of the historic Dark Peak Books & Gifts, the machine acts as a microcosm of her High Street shop and will be stocked with a rotating selection of 16 titles.

Families are also celebrated in the new design. A dedicated children's area honours the work of John Vernon Lord, the beloved illustrator and author of the Glossop-inspired title The Giant Jam Sandwich, ensuring the market remains a welcoming space for all generations.

Community groups, businesses, and individuals looking to book the space can get in touch directly via the website.

Richard Walker, Managing Director of The Hospitality Collective, said:

"We know the local community has been patiently waiting for this moment, and we have been truly overwhelmed by the incredible engagement from such exciting local brands who wanted to be involved in the hall. It is a moment of immense pride for us to be able to finally launch the Market Hall, and we are so excited for the future of this venue as a destination the whole town can be proud of."

Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, Deputy Leader and Executive Councillor for Regeneration, Tourism and Leisure, added:

"We’re absolutely delighted to be opening the doors on this High Peak Borough Council‑delivered, multi‑million pound transformation of Glossop’s Market Hall, Arcade and Town Hall. This is the biggest regeneration project in decades, a true passion project that breathes new life into the very heart of our town. What’s most exciting is that we can now share it with the community - a space that celebrates our heritage, supports local entrepreneurs and creates a destination Glossop can be proud of for generations to come.

“From the outset, our vision has been to give local businesses and independent makers the platform they deserve, while building a vibrant hub that showcases the very best in food, drink and retail curated by our operator, The Hospitality Collective. Glossop Market Hall is set to thrive once again - a real gift to the town and the perfect way to kick off the festive season."
